Shane Long and Mike Iaconelli

October 30, 2007 by admin

Shane Long has just completed his rookie season as a pro on the Central Pro-Am tournament trail. He finishes the year 4th in the overall standings with a 6th place finish in the CPA Championship. Now he’s headed to Toho to fish in the Federation Nation Championship and his shot at one of six Bassmaster Classic berths. He’s here to tell us about his transition from amateur to pro in the CPA and his path to the Federation Nation Championship. He’ll also share some insight into drop shotting and then look ahead to his ultimate goal of competing on one of the premier bass fishing circuits.

Mike Iaconelli with 2006 AOY TrophyThen Billy is joined by the always colorful Mike Iaconelli (thanks to Tru-Tungsten). Ike gives his honest appraisal of his 2007 season and contrasts that to this 2006 Angler-of-the-Year performance. He’ll also talk about his personal quest to grow bass fishing into a mainstream sport that’s popular well beyond its traditional southern audience, his penchant for teaching others the sport, and of course, he’ll also answer questions about his sometimes controversial behavior and how it defines him as a person. And you won’t want to miss Ike’s advice for amateur anglers. Check out Mike’s website at MikeIaconelli.com.

Thanks for asking Mike my questions posted in the forums. I did enjoy the interview.
He seems like an very honest guy and understands that sometimes he makes mistakes.

I agree with him the flag was just there and it had nothing to do with the american flag or being patriotic.

I bought one of his DVD’s a year or to and he really does a nice job of explaining bass fishing to the novice. He has a simple style, yet makes it very entertaining.

I’ve always wondered if spending money to be a co-angler is worth the money - based on his explanation, I think it will be worth the money and time. I was surprised that he said a co-angler should fish the same zone as the pro with a different bait, I would have thought he would say to focus on a different zone all together.

    Great interview.

This guy is real and having someone like him in the sport gives guys like me hope. That you dont have to be special to be great. You just have to be you.

Great podcast! I too, like Ike and always have. Passion is what it’s all about. Never give up!
I saw Shane down at the Florida Bass Federation Nation National Championship. I have a bunch of pictures that I took down there and I believe I have some of Shane on stage. I have the trip to Florida archived at the top of the blog on the teardropbass.com website. It was a great trip and I would advise any and all to give the Federation a look and a try. I do every year and one of these years….
