Derek Remitz and Jeff Connella

2007 Bassmaster Elite Rookie of the Year Derek Remitz returns to the BassFeed Podcast to recap his up and down season and share some of the lessons he learned on the tournament trail. He looks ahead to the 2008 season and his goal of qualifying for the Bassmaster Classic for the third time. Finally he talks about his two “go-to” techniques for finding the right-sized bass when practice doesn’t necessarily make perfect.
Then Bassmaster Eite sophomore Jeff Connella talks about learning to be versatile in order to be competitive with the best anglers in the world. After cashing half a dozen checks this year, all of which were earned by fishing a different technique, he’s qualified for the 2008 Elite season and he’s convinced that being flexible equates to being competitive at the highest level of bass fishing. Jeff also talks about his unique “signature” truck wrap, which you can see at JeffConnella.com.

I was interested in the type of GPS unit Jeff used and visited his website. He currently uses the Lowrance lms-332c, which isn’t in something lowrance sells now.
Shot him an email and within seconds, he let me know what the equivalent model is.
It is true the bass fisherman(woman) are the most accessible and approachable professional sportsman out there.
Just wanted to thank Jeff and appreciated the interview.
On a side note, Derek Remitz can use the interviewing practice - I loved watching what he was capable of out on the lake but he isn’t the most comfortable interview. Being young, he has a lifetime to work on it. Being great on the water is more important at this stage of his career.
I did become a wolverine fan this year Being from Michigan, you got pull for those Northern boys and it was good to see Derek really do well.
Jeff really is a great guy. I’m looking forward to fishing with him sometime in the coming year.
And you’re right, Derek isn’t quite the polished public personality that some of his contemporaries are, but I find it kind of refreshing.
